About Course

CPD WEBINAR: MEDICAL–LEGAL ISSUES IN HEALTH PRACTICE.. WHO IS SAFE!

Date: Wednesday, 9 September 2026

Time: 7:00–9:00 PM EAT

Overview

Healthcare professionals operate at the intersection of clinical care, professional ethics and the law. Every clinical decision—from obtaining consent and maintaining confidentiality to documenting care, referring patients and managing adverse events—may carry medical, ethical and legal implications.

This Continuing Professional Development (CPD) webinar, “Medical–Legal Issues in Health Practice,” is designed to strengthen healthcare professionals’ understanding of their legal responsibilities and professional accountability while promoting safe, ethical and patient-centered practice.

The session will provide a practical discussion of common medical–legal challenges encountered in healthcare settings and equip participants with approaches for preventing avoidable litigation, protecting patients’ rights, safeguarding healthcare professionals and improving the quality and safety of care.

Key Areas of Focus

  • Informed consent and patients’ rights
  • Confidentiality, privacy and disclosure of information
  • Clinical documentation and medical records
  • Professional negligence and malpractice
  • Scope of practice and professional accountability
  • Communication between healthcare professionals, patients and families
  • Duty of care and referral responsibilities
  • Managing adverse events and complaints
  • Ethical decision-making in legally complex situations
  • Risk management and prevention of medical–legal disputes

Why This Webinar Matters

Good clinical practice is not only about what we do—it is also about how, why and how well we document what we do.

Understanding medical–legal responsibilities helps healthcare professionals to:

PROTECT PATIENTS → PRACTISE SAFELY → DOCUMENT ACCURATELY → COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY → REDUCE LEGAL RISK → BUILD TRUST.

Key message:

“Who is safe? The healthcare professional who understands the law, respects patients’ rights, documents appropriately and practices within professional standards.”
